On June 17, 2014, after three years of planning and fund-raising, work began on assembling two new modular homes on Great Cranberry Island, to serve as rental properties for two new, year-around families. The project was made possible by the donation of the land, a grant of $355,000 from the Maine State Housing Authority, and many generous donations from private individuals.
The houses are single-family, three-bedroom homes. The modules were manufactured by Prestige Homes of New Brunswick, Canada. Each house is composed of four modules, and It took only a day to assemble each house. Watch the video of the construction, taken by a remote-controlled drone helicopter run by Joe Keeney, here.
